First Congregational Church of Lewis
Welcome to First Congregational Church of Lewis
For more information please:
This Community Church sits on a knoll overlooking the hamlet of Lewis. Although our church is small in membership it is large in our service to God and the people of the community. We are proud of our heritage and the fact that this church is the oldest Congregational Church in Essex County, New York. In August 2005, during the Bicentennial of the Town of Lewis, our church was placed on the National Register of Historical Places. The First Congregational Church of Lewis will celebrate its 200th birthday on June 12, 2012. Stay tuned for our Bicentennial events that will be held on July 28th and 29th of this year. In 1989 members of the church completed an attached Parish Hall, as seen to the left, that is used for dinners and community events. Adjoining the church property to the Northwest is a cemetery owned by the church, but administered by a cemetery association. This church shares a minister with the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown.
